Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 10/19/2011

Being on Facebook all day at work is probably cool, unless it is your job to be on Facebook all day.

I'd probably like facebook more if I hadn't been doing fantasy sports online for over 10 years.  I'm not trying to be cynical, it is just I've pretty much exhausted all the ways to post messages to my friends and tell them that they suck.

Social media, it is just a medium.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 10/12/2011

Nothing like having an anxiety dream about a real anxiety.

Not sure why, but dreams of neglected studies and impending tests continue to haunt me as well as soccer and band futility.

I wish I would have drawn Long Hair a little wackier.

Next week...Social Media.

I'm sure you'll "like" it. (Get it?)

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 09/28/2011

The struggle of Stuff vs Space I know very well.
Next week’s strip…Anxiety

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 09/21/2011

Pizza and beer!

It is the currency of moving and a dietary staple.

This week's strip will answer where Long Hair is during the move.

Now, are they still moving boxes that say "shoes" because Art Girl has that many shoes, or was I too lazy to change the boxes?

You decide.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 09/14/2011

If only I had a robot to help me with me boxes!
This strip is inspired by boxes titled “shoes”, along with my friends asking if I worked for HP as I had about 240 (low estimate) HP boxes filled with crap.
Also inspired by my friends (who I’m very grateful for their help) asking me where they should put the boxes marked “basement”.
I think when I am done with my last box, I may post a strip of Art Girl celebrating with binge drinking because she unpacked her last box.  This strip will probably be published sometime in February 2012.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 09/07/2011

Back from Hiatus with a new strip about my least favorite topic of the moment, moving.  I like being in a new place, but those boxes don’t move or unpack themselves, and therein lies the problem.
We also celebrate the one year anniversary of the strip that debuted on my sister’s birthday last year.  I wish I drew Art Girl smiling better, and was hoping for something more along the lines of Peggy Rathmann’s smiling gorilla in “Goodnight Gorilla”, but she’s an artist, and I’m a guy that can only draw a robot.  The gorilla in the book smiles big, and if there is a sound that goes with his smile, it is “EEEEEEEEE!!!”
This is also the first strip to insinuate a curse word.  Punk Rock can curse, because he can do anything (except unpack my boxes)
Next week, boxes.
This weeks strip is dedicated to Morgan, Keir, Joe Webb’s cousin Jami, Man U Mike C, Red Awesome, Mr. Stratman, Stevie Y of USC, Alvin D, Elvis, Orbie, Austin, New York, Professor Schultz, and Fubar

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 08/24/2011

So we wrap up the Philosophy Final Thread, and the strip sums it up (or so says the guy who thinks about life too much).
Hope to have a new strip next week, but we’ll see.  I may buy some time with one, or just go on a one week hiatus (cartoonists always go on hiatus).
Strips in the future will be about new jobs for Long Hair and Art Girl.  Just a matter of finding five minutes to draw.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 08/17/2011

The idea for this strip came to me after listening to “It’s Like That” and then trying to explain who RUN, DMC, and Jam Master Jay are to a 4 year old.  I like the idea of a RUN DMC app.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 08/10/2011

This weeks installment of the Philosophy Final thread was inspired by my good friend Professor Schultz and a conversation we had after a few beers.  It was kind of funny at the time. I like that Long Hair looks pretty mopey.  Nothing like a mopey existential-angst-filled male college student drinking beer.  I should have put a way to indicate in the strip that The Smiths are playing on the jukebox.  Something like “The Boy with Thorn in His Side” or “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now”.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 08/02/2011

I'm thinking the word "arcade" is going to be one of those words that date you as a generation, kind of like "vcr" or "album".  Either way, stops at the arcade were part of college life for me and a friend of mine.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 07/28/2011

I would have been a lot lazier in college if I had Google and Wikipedia available.  Back then it took a lot of time to not do real work.

I have the philosophy thread completed and the remaining strips done to be posted in the weeks ahead.  I find it humorous to do a strip about procrastinating in advance.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 07/14/2011

A bit of a delay since I've launched at Tumblr, that feeds facebook, but then Blogger feeds Google+, so here I am managing 2 separate blogs with the same content.  Anyway, a new post for those followers of this blog, and I just want to say, I appreciate both of you.

This strip I like, because yes, getting into college is a challenge and quite an accomplishment, but it is the getting out that gets the biggest accolades.

I like the annoyed Long Hair expression.

Track 3 from the "Ooo" EP should be out tomorrow. On a related note, I expect to lay down some new beats (like how I'm talking like a rapper?) in the days ahead.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 06/22/2011

We continue with the Philosophy Final story, and hopefully this will be a good run.

I'm hoping next week I can make a big announcement regarding the Punk Rock Drum Machine brand.  I still have some things I need to test out, but hopefully Punk Rock Drum Machine can become a nice place to visit when you are at a computer but don't feel like working.

Vocals were added to the 4 songs what will be released soon on a true EP titled "Ooo" after the Rooney's dog who makes that sound when she's happy.  I still need to remix and redo a couple vocals, but the tracks will be:

Sand Castles
Gross
Truman
Sydney Can't Wait

More info to come

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 06/15/2011

I'm getting a few strips in the can, so I should have some regular posting going on over the summer.  I'm pleased with the rendition of Art Girl and if I could draw the characters consistently like I drew them this week, I'd be content.

I'm hoping to have an announcement next week regarding the Punk Rock Drum Machine brand.  In the meantime I'll confess that 4 new songs have been completed and are only needing lyrics.  They'll be released as a true E.P. and compiled to an album by St. Paddy's Day.  I'm hoping to get the vocals done this weekend, but we'll see about that.

In the meantime, I am Punk Rock Drum Machine.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 06/01/2011

So I'm late a week in posting, but this time it was because I actually took a vacation.  Don't worry, for those that have been checking back on Wednesdays, the ideas are in my head, and this week starts what will be an ongoing thread involving Long Hair's struggle with his Philosophy final.  Long Hair is drawn a bit mopey this time and his head seems different, but for some reason it worked.  Maybe his head is swelling because of the Philosophy final.  Anyway more to come.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 05/11/2011

Not sure if the 2 week schedule helped, but I'm Ok with this strip, and it will lead to some ideas I have.  The punchline makes me laugh of course because I'm the one drawing robots.  I think drawing Punk Rock sad came out pretty well.  Art Girl in panel 1 works pretty well now that I look at it. I wish I was a bit more consistent with Long Hair's hair, but when you have the mop that I see him having, there's going to be some variance.  With the idea I have, there will some static strips taking place at the "bar setting" they're in which will allow me to get some strips lined up.  Cartooning is kind of hard when you don't have time. Kudos to those that do it for a living.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 04/27/2011

I'm going to start publishing every other week.  I know I wanted to do every week, but it's just not possible with the limbo I'm limbo-ing in right now.  If I can do it more frequent, then I will.  The way I see it, most comic books come out every month if you're lucky, or 3 times a year if its titled "Ultimate X".  So twice a month is pretty good I think.  Who knows, maybe I'll get some better strips out.  It doesn't take much time to draw, but its still time I just don't seem to have currently.

I think this thread was being driven by the want to incorporate the picture of Punk Rock with the guitar (also the album cover for Way Out).  I do like the idea of artists catering to an audience and failing along with the fact that a robot is by no means what people want to see when they think of art.

So see ya in 2 weeks, when this thread continues.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 04/13/2011

So I figure if there is a sarcasm app, surely there must be an insult app, and it must be named in honor of Don Rickles.  Tried working on some facial expressions.  I think I did OK with a chuckling robot.

Happy B-Day to Bones McGillicuddy!

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 03/23/2010

First off, apologies to Mike Judge, however let's give props, because the last thing cool on MTV was Beavis and Butt-Head.

Not sure if anyone is even following the strip as it appears I took a month off, which I sort of did.  Between transition back to Southern California and computer problems, it just didn't happen.  Sadly I drew this strip's final panel 3 separate times and lost the file twice.  I'm sure the first version is funnier and drawn better, but hey, Punk Rock Drum Machine the comic strip is back in business.  I'll make this week's the last of the couch surfing and try and get a new thread going next week.  The last thing I'll say about the month hiatus is I felt like a real comic book artists who takes his sweet time putting out the next installment (I"m looking at you Ultimate X).

In other Punk Rock Drum Machine news, the new album is complete, inlays will be printed, and then I'll begin distribution.  Considering all that has gone on the past few months, the album came out OK.  In the end, I like it, and that is all that matters I guess.  If I catered to the masses I'm sure I'd be in some retro-techno-cover band.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 02/23/2010

So if you're wondering about why no strip last week, let's just call it a hiatus.  I'll try and get the strip going again, and don't worry the lads will eventually move off the couch, but in the meantime why not make fun of MTV.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 02/09/2010

Another static strip and the timing is perfect for me personally.

Recording of the new Punk Rock Drum Machine album should wrap this week, and the photos for the cover have been shot.

I won't like, next week, Punk Rock and Long Hair will watch more TV.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 02/02/2010

Funny that The Onion now has a news broadcast, but it just doesn't work for me.  I've been watching The Daily Show since it replaced Politically Incorrect and Craig Kilbourne was the host.  In fact, I still have a Politically Incorrect coffee mug given to me from Arianna Huffington at a Politically Incorrect taping back when she was a Republican.  Anyway, there's something about The Daily Show that rings true for college student, and although I've graduated from college, my views are still a college student mentality.  Nothing like mocking the hypocrisy of politics make you go, "yeah, this is crap".

Anyway, this was the first time I did 3 identical panels with dialogue.  Nothing wrong with doing that once in a while, and if you are watching TV, it is very static.

So, next week....more TV

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 01/26/2010

I think it's safe to assume that we've all been through this.

There's a lot of video games being played in my castle of late.

I exaggerated Long Hair in Panel 3 a bit because during some downtime I exposed Boy O to the blog, and the one thing he laughed at was pictures of Long Hair freaking out.

Cheers!

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 01/19/2010

As promised, a college student playing video games.

I must have been a serious student in college, as I didn't get a game system until after when I had a real job and more free time. I"m sure if I had a game system, I would not have gotten assignments done on time.  I think I also benefited from the good game systems not coming out until after I graduated.  Yet once I played Sonic on my friends Sega and was blown away by the killer graphics...

I'm pleased with the facial expressions in panel 3.  I think video game faces are funny.

As for the Punk Rock Drum Machine album, 10 songs are done, and a title track of "Punkaliscious" is among them.  Having trouble coming up with artwork and I'm tempted to ask some of my artists friends for "punkaliscious" art.  One dumb idea I've had is Punk Rock (the robot) with the Ziggy Stardust swoop. This may be the first Punk Rock Drum Machine album without a cover.  I kind of tapped out last year, and the only one I'd like to do is probably "Texas" by Sandy Cheeks.

More video game fun next week.

Punk Rock Drum Machine Comic Strip 01/12/2010

First off, Happy Belated New Year.

For those that are wondering where is last week's strip, let's just say I took one of those cartoonist hiatus that are so popular.  One could also be correct in guessing that I had slacked and used up the lead of strips I built up.  I'll see if I can get some churned out in the week's ahead.  One thing I did a lot of in college was watch TV and play video games, so we can look forward to some strips of Long Hair and Punk Rock couch surfing.

We start the year off with a wrap up of the movie thread which was a homage to the Lisbeth Salander and the Millennium Trilogy.  I'm also giving a nod to the cool ones with leather jackets.

What I like best about this week's strip besides the leather jacket quip is I got to draw the grumbling cursing swirl above Punk Rock's head in panel 3 which I haven't done since the second strip.  I was reminded of it recently when my Mii character was losing in tennis.  Thank you Nintendo.
